Hello! My name is Emily, and I am the blogger, photographer and recipe creator of The Chic Pea blog. I started this blog in August of 2016 after deciding to transition into a career in nutrition and wellness. After being a buyer in the fashion industry for several years I came to the realization that this was no longer the career path for me. My true passion was cooking healthy food, fitness and overall mind and body wellness.
I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Science in Nutrition program at Maryland University of Integrative Health. I decided to start this blog to discuss my transition into the nutrition world, and to show everyone that holistic wellness IS achievable.
My mom was the one who really inspired me to love cooking and encouraged me to be creative in the kitchen. She is the best cook I know. She rarely follows an exact recipe and always puts her own spin on everything to make it lighter and healthier. Her food is always beautifully presented, which has inspired me to make my meals as eye- appealing as possible. I feel that when food is visually appetizing it excites your taste buds and makes you even more eager to eat it.
When I moved away from home, I called my mom every night and we’d have a phone conference about what I was making for dinner. She’d help me strategize new recipes and new cooking techniques. This is when my passion for cooking really began. I discovered that I could make anything more nutritious and healthy just by altering a few ingredients. I am not a professional chef by any means- I have learned everything through watching my mom and grandmom in the kitchen, by reading blogs and cooking magazines and by experimenting for myself.
My goal in having this blog is to show you how simple it is to improve your overall wellness. Cheers to getting one step closer in becoming the healthiest version of yourself!
